How Our Daily Choices Delay Our Fitness Goals One At a Time

Being fit is more than a number on the scales and it is more than looking good in a particular outfit. It is about how healthy you are from the inside out and it all depends on the daily choices you make.

From the number of steps you take everyday to even the tiniest morsel of food you put in your mouth, everything counts in your fitness journey. Exercise and diet are the fundamentals of healthy living and if you compromise on either of them, you will be compromising your health.

That said, some things are easier said than done! Not everyone can make a conscious effort to exercise regularly or eat healthy on a daily basis but luckily for you, we have compiled a few of the daily choices that you can cut back on to lead a healthier life!

Skipping Breakfast Altogether!

Breakfast is one of the most important yet most overlooked meal of the day. The importance of having a good and hearty breakfast can’t be undermined. Breakfast is the first meal of the day and it basically kick-starts your body’s metabolism for the rest of the day.

Skipping breakfast may seem convenient to most of us, especially if we are short on time in the morning but in reality, it sets a very unhealthy tone for the rest of our day. It not only gives a lethargic start to the day but it also increases your chances of binge eating whenever you get hungry. This in turn leads to weight gain. You don’t need to have a huge breakfast to prevent this; rather you have to be smart about your choices!

A bowl of oatmeal, a couple of boiled eggs or even a good serving of yogurt parfait is enough to give you a healthy start to the day!

Avoiding/ Delaying Your Workouts

It is always easy to make up an excuse to avoid going to the gym or incorporating any form of activity in your daily life. We have news for you! You don’t necessarily need a gym membership to start moving around. Small and simple things like walking to your work pace or walking over to the grocery store does count as your daily activity.

If you are not a big fan of walking around or you are a bit far from your work place, use a bicycle. Your aim is to increase your activity. Taking stairs instead of an elevator, whenever you can, also counts as your daily quota of activity. Invest in some light weights and you can actually do some weight lifting while watching your favorite TV program, instead of just lying on the sofa and stuffing yourself with potato crisps.

Going Crazy in the Grocery Store!

Grocery shopping has to be one of the most fun things to do, especially if you love the aisles with all the junk food stashed in them! From sugary granola bars to upsized bags of salty crisps and toffee-flavored popcorns, it seems as if some invisible force pulls you towards those aisles. Having these once in a while is okay, as long as you don’t over-indulge yourself and make it a regular habit.

You can make better choices by choosing a small pack of crisps instead of an upsized one or you can make your own healthy granola bars at home instead of buying the sugary stuff from the shops. It is not easy to give up junk food so take it easy on yourself and set small goals over a period of time and you will see a difference!

Hooked on to Fizzy Drinks!

Who doesn’t like a cold glass of juice or a can of fizzy drink on a hot day? As refreshing and tempting as it sounds, it is better to quench your thirst with water or a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice.

Fizzy drinks and juices are high in sugar and empty calories. They may refresh you but in the long run, they are only going to hinder your fitness journey!
